Today I took Charlotte to a pediatric dermatologist for her recent eczema flare-up. We had to drive all the way to Fort Mill, South Carolina, to an out-of-network provider, to see this reknowned doctor. It was worth the drive and worth the OOP expense! She took one quick look at Charlotte and knew exactly what to prescribe - a far cry from our visits to the general pediatrician!
Charlotte has suffered from eczema since she was 4 mos. old but it's gotten extremely worse of the last several months, and EVEN Worse than that over the last couple WEEKS!
She has prescribed 4 creams/gels, a new oral antihistamine (Xyzal), and new body cream/body wash for Charlotte to use (CeraVe). We'll have to use a # system just to keep straight what goes where and in what order! I bought everything this afternoon with coupons and insurance and it only totalled about $110. That is AMAZING if you know anything about how much topical cream prescriptions can run! (One of these costs $440 - for ONE TUBE - if you have no insurance or coupon - YIKES!) So we are on a 4 week project to treat Charlotte 2 x's a day with these medicines and see the results by July hopefully. Please keep us in your prayers!
She SCRATCHES and digs into her itchy skin. "Itch. Itch. Itch," she cries.
We are going to sew footies on her pajamas so she cannot access fingernails to skin during the night.
In addition to the eczema she has an all-over-body rash. We don't know what from...
Bless her little heart :( Poor poor baby. You might try to add some coconut oil to her food and flax oil. Both are known for helping eczema. I hope she feels better soon. No fun.
ReplyDeleteOh and they have organic flax oil at Trader Joe's by the vitamins. You can make her a smoothie with it or put it on oatmeal/cereal.
ReplyDeletexyzal is awesome...i take that too~! I am glas to see she is getting better!
